Activities Detail

The Big Muir Hike:
Do you enjoy long hikes up snow covered mountains up the same elevation as the top of Mt St Helens? Then this hike is for you. Join Mike and Kirsten in the 5 mile hike up to Mt Rainiers most popular mountaineering base camp ‘Camp Muir’. This hike involves 4500 feet of elevation gain ending at 10,000 feet above sea level. On the way back enjoy glasading down the snow in long troughs made by prior hikers. At least half of the sojourn is on the muir permanent snow field. Be at the Paradise parking lot at 10am ready for a full day in Gods great country. Required gear: a camelback or large water bottle, snack food, hiking boots that can handle the snow, sunglasses, sunblock, and warm clothes for the top. Optional gear: gaiters, GPS, Skiis, snowboard, hiking poles, sled, garbage bag to slide on. This is a challenging hike and requires decent fitness and health, if you have asthma or similar health conditions be wise about joining us.

The Paradise Hike:
Not feeling the camp muir hike? Try this loop trail that takes you around the amazing paradise meadows area. Follow the skyline trail for a total of 5.4 miles and 1700 feet elevation gain topping out at Panorama Point at 7,100 feet. Essentials: Food, water, hiking boots, and warm clothes for the top. If the snow is cleared you may be lucky enough to see the long flowing flowering meadows and pristine garden like beauty of paradise. Just remember the marmots may look cute but you can’t take them home.

The Walking Tour:
Don’t want to be stuck in one place all day? Check out some of the great trails that keep you near the car. First stop by Narada Falls on the way up to Paradise and hike down to the viewpoint for some nice pics. Head up to Paradise and trudge up to Alta Vista for a view of the lower Paradise meadows. Hop back to the car and head over to Reflection Lakes. Still want some more then keep going to box canyon and maybe take a few steps on the 93 mile wonderland trail.

The driving tour:
Why go hiking when you can see the whole mountain in a day. Head up to Paradise and check out the lodge and visitor center. Next roll over to the opanacosh visitor center. Head north to Chinook Pass and take in the huge panoramic view right next to the Pacific Crest Trail, maybe you’ll run into a thru hiker coming from mexico. Drive back and continue around the park a little more to come to Sunrise the other major hub of Mt. Rainier… You’ll be glad you stuck it out to this point. Time to head back but your cameras full anyways…

HOPE Neighbors Club: Meals for Homeless Teens at Orion Center

HOPE Neighbors Square

“All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.” -Galatians 2:10

The HOPE Neighbors Club was able to serve lunch to the homeless teens of Seattle thanks to your support. We all connected and enjoyed the opportunity to help those who need love and a healthy lunch of salad and sandwiches.

As a church we are determined to continue growing in loving those in need here in Seattle. Our desire to imitate Jesus requires loving those in need around us. We have always been committed to our “Seasons of Hope” efforts that have included our annual MLK, Jr. Day of Service, an annual blood drive, our annual NW Harvest Food Drive and a Christmas Toy Drive for the Seattle Children’s Home. We were inspired by Heather Hsu to move from quarterly efforts to serve those in need to monthly projects. We are eager for your creativity and support as we develop this program. Heather is developing a committee of interested parties and you can contact her at heather@hsufarm.com. Thank you to all who have helped us serve the poor locally and globally through HOPE Worldwide since our church started here in Seattle 24 years ago. Looking forward to becoming more like Jesus in the coming years and appreciate your love and support along the way.

January Partnership with local fire fighters and the American Red Cross. Our MLK, Jr. Day of Fire Prevention Awareness Day was a great success.
February Partnership with Swedish Medical Center’s Children’s Trauma Wing: We will be developing the library of books, DVDs and VHS tapes for the children undergoing medical care and their families. Donations Requested for Boston Relief Fund

Screen Shot 2013-04-19 at 11.48.04 AMDonations Requested for Boston Relief Fund

Please share on Facebook, Twitter, #BostonChurchofChrist, etc.

The Boston Marathon bombing is one of those tragic events that mark our lives. We will remember where we were when we heard, how we felt watching the images of horror and heroism, and the lessons that we learned. For other survivors, however, the attack will leave much more than memories. We are writing this as the suspects are being hunted down in a violent exchange.

This horrific tragedy created the need for physical and emotional therapy, job retraining, and even prosthetic limbs. Some of the victims were self-employed and friends of disciples. The Boston Church of Christ is going to help.

In addition to the prayers of the saints, the church is going to help financially by giving directly to the most severely injured victims. This is a real need. A prosthetic leg can cost as much as $50,000 and an arm as much as $30,000, costs which are only partially offset by insurance. Loss of income, therapy of any sort, specially-equipped vehicles, and the ongoing costs of life only add to the burden.

Through a special freewill offering on Sunday April 21, and over the following two weeks, the Boston Church will be taking donations for these victims. Because we desire to show the church’s heart for her city, the money will go directly to the victims personally from the Boston Church itself. The church administrative staff has agreed to handle all of the details so that every dollar given will go to the victims.

The Boston Marathon bombing is a national, and even international, tragedy as people from all over the world participated. Therefore we have created a means for those in other cities to join us in this show of love and support for the victims.

Boston Church members and friends are also urged to donate blood through the Red Cross to compensate for the depletion of blood supplies.

Hello family,

Thanks so much for all your prayers. Kelli passed away sometime after 9:00am this morning. Mack, Nikki and I had the privilege of spending time with her and her family until early this morning – sharing stories about Kelli’s love and great sense of humor. God’s timing is perfect. He allowed her to hang in there until her mom arrived and spend one last evening together. Kelli’s sister Amanda was already in town to be there with Kelli through out the process. Her sister shared that she had never seen peace in Kelli like what she has seen recently. Her mom also challenged Kelli the last time she was in town to “really start living.” Kelli changed so much and really started living as a disciple this past month. She started calling Nikki and I almost daily for fellowship and initiating time to come over or go out always with her bible in hand. She practiced hospitality and had us over for lunch and bible study. She also poured out her heart to her husband and shared with those close to her how she would have done things differently and apologized with no judgement on others. She continually wanted to know what God’s purpose was for her with the time she had. I believe she lives it. She was so radiant at church a week and half ago, and last Saturday before she went into the ER we got to spend a girls day out eating, picking out a wig and getting a pedicure. She was so filled with joy. Most of all, she let go of get fear of dying and panic. I am so grateful that she was the one who said, I am ready to die now.

God has provided so much comfort to those who love her through her surrender.

Zoe Strong
