One of the blessings that I cherish the most at this time of year is the ability to stop and bask in happy childhood memories. The holiday season offers us so many reminders. I smell the autumn leaves and suddenly I’m a kid again making a giant mountain under the oak tree in my front yard to jump, play and hide in.
Staring at the fire in my fireplace now I easily drift back in my thoughts. I couldn’t wait to put up the Christmas decorations. My favorite was always hanging our stockings on the mantel. I still have that same stocking.
I know that we all have a great many memories of our childhoods and sometimes it’s the unhappy ones that cry out for our attention. Let’s all take some time to consider the happy childhood memories that warm our hearts and help us to grow in gratitude. We are truly blessed and will benefit greatly from spending more time counting those blessings.
