Well you knew someone was going to write about it eventually. Maybe not, but since Daren wrote about golf, I think he opened the door to all athletic competitions in general. Now if you don’t know who Tim Tebow is, just take a couple of minutes and do a google search on the Internet. I’ll wait. Surprised? Intrigued? Inspired? Tim Tebow has one the highest honors at all levels of his football career. His senior year in college though, he was told he couldn’t succeed as an NFL quarterback because of his throwing mechanics and the accuracy of his passes. Since his first NFL start earlier this season, no player has been as polarizing. His team keeps winning games, despite his below average performance as a passer. They’ve won 7 of the last 8, and Tebow has led them on 5 4th quarter comebacks during that impressive run. What’s so polarizing about that? Well, much of it has to do with his faith.
Tebow believes in Jesus and has found a way to intertwine that genuine faith into everything he does, both on and off the field. His faith makes him a huge target, especially when he gets down on one knee after touchdowns or games. I am usually very critical of athletes who do this, but for some reason, Tebow’s genuine humility has won me over. I find myself rooting for him and of course, watching the 4th quarter of all his games.
Whether Tebow is successful as NFL quarterback or whether he will one day prove his critics right is irrelevant to me. Right now, I support an NFL Superstar who is vocal about his faith and who isn’t afraid to be vocal about what he believes. Win or lose, right now, I find that to be a blessing. You go Tebow! Keep winning games, keep praying and don’t stop being vocal about your beliefs.
