Lynne and I just spent 3 inspiring days in Bellingham with the “Blitz” mission team at work to move the evangelism of this church planting vigorously forward. Ben and Jess Sanders, who lead this small but intrepid group of disciples, are working with several “summer interns” from Seattle, and with Jer’rel Coleman as a full time intern. They spend their days with morning group prayer and /or teaching, daily evangelism on campus and off, in hopes of finding seeking souls ready to study God’s Word.
Here’s a picture of the current team and one of the Sanders:
The summer “blitz” team invites people to both Bible Talk and to lots of outdoor activities, like volleyball. The noon game this past Tuesday nearly killed Scott and Lynne, but it was worth it—it’s so heartening to see the outreach and meet the new names and faces now coming to events and studying the bible.
I found it especially amusing and inspiring that the team is sometimes going “bar to bar” in the early evenings inviting singles and young marrieds to church and bible talk—Christians rule the saloons! Lynne and I had an amazing talk one night at the Copper Hog (a gastropub) with the lady bartender, who eloquently raised all kinds of spiritual questions, but clearly still hasn’t found what she’s looking for.
Pray, pray for the Bellingham church and for the Bellingham blitz. The interns team will continue to labor through September, when a special dynamic duo will arrive: Jared Bridge and Matt Rollins. Pray for dozens of studies to emerge, that “as many as possible” can be baptized into Christ in 2012.
Love from Bellingham,
Scott & Lynne
