Ten days ago, Lynne and I had the wonderful privilege of speaking at a married retreat for one of the LA church’s geo-regions (about the size of the Seattle church), on the topic of “From You and Me to WE.” It was our first sojourn to beautiful Palm Springs:
Though Lynne was quite ill on Saturday, we were able to teach together and enjoy a rich fellowship with long-term friends Marty and Chris Fuqua (the original 1982 Chicago church leaders/builders) and Reese and MaryKay Neyland. Here are some pictures of them:
We also had a wonderful time getting to know Ron and Cheryl Hammer (Ron’s pic below), who organized the retreat and who lead an LA region. They were originals on the mid-80’s Toronto church planting:
In other breaking news, Lynne spoke yesterday at the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah on the subject, “The Healing Effects of the Animal-Human Bond.” Here’s a picture of her doing what she does so well (!).
I appreciate her using her talents and experiences to expand her “fields” for sowing good seeds. Next stop—another gig next month at another Kiwanis Club.
It makes me pause as we near the New Year to think through how I’m sowing in my own fields. How can I become “all things to all men” with young and older marrieds? Or with empty nesters? I’m wondering again, “what would Jesus do” in my shoes about this? Lynne and I have enjoyed doing the Family Connections seminars this year, but I believe these need some kind of adaptation to Sunday mornings as a place to bring the community for these vital discussions. Stay tuned…
