Camp Hope for Kids has been a pivotal part of my life for three summers now. And every summer, I have left stronger, smarter, and more self-aware. As I watched the experience of camp change the lives of the kids we serve, I watched my own heart change as well. Working at camp, I have learned invaluable lessons about how to be humble, vulnerable, and selfless. I have learned that it doesn’t take big flashy gimmicks to impact kids–it takes a listening heart and a playful spirit. Camp reminds everyone on its grounds what it means to be young and innocent; it exposes fears and turns them into dreams. It brings strangers from all different walks of life together and turns them into lifelong friends. Camp taught me how to let go of things that damage me and embrace what God has put in front of me. I saw the face of God’s love in a way I never could have if I had not been at Camp–in the trust of a child, in the tears of a broken teen, in the friendship of a fellow staff-member. The training I received at camp from ministry staff and the incredible women behind the scenes at Hope for Kids was invaluable, and I fully believe I could not have learned what I did from anywhere else. I have watched the lives of inner city kids change forever from one week of being loved at camp, some of whom I still keep in touch with and will well into my adulthood.
Honestly, what camp does is intangible and indescribable. It pulses with passion, and it is impossible for anyone who steps foot onto its grounds to not be completely infected. I owe so much of what God has done in my life to my time at camp…he used this special place to turn me into the woman I am today, and I will be forever grateful. Please go to the Camp Hope website, one that disciples here in the Seattle church have helped to create, and check it out for yourself. It will take only minutes to understand why this camp is so important, and hopefully move you to support this incredible cause in whatever way you can. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Our mission is to build community and change the lives of privileged and disadvantaged youth. Compassionate and dedicated staff and volunteers provide education related to character development, the environment, health awareness, mentoring and leadership training, through year round partnerships and summer camps.
The potential benefits of purchasing the property are numerous. Our goal is to give Camp HOPE for Kids a permanent home where we can develop facilities for the camp long-term to meet future needs. Get more information about the camp’s facilities.
We are pleased to report that gifts and pledges totaling more than $800,000 are now in hand. This includes more than $15,000 raised by campers selling cupcakes (yes, cupcakes!) and conducting other fundraisers. With your help, we can achieve our dream.
